LONDON CANNABIS RALLY & FESTIVAL REVIEW

THOUSANDS MARCH IN BRITAIN FOR LEGAL CANNABIS
Reuters (Wire)

"The march is to protest for legalisation and the festival is a celebration of cannabis," said Shane Collins, licensee for the Cannabis Carnival in Brixton, south London. Collins estimated the British cannabis trade to be worth six billion pounds a year, adding it provided thousands of Britons with jobs.

"We want to put the profits from that into where they are needed -- youth services and residential rehab," he told the BBC. A police spokeswoman said they did not have a estimate of crowd numbers but said the marches were trouble free and the crowds had dispersed by early evening.

THE REVIEW

We arrived in Brixton on Friday evening and parked the 'Bulance (see left) up for the night. We walked over to the venue for the 'End Cannabis Prohibition' (No Victim No Crime) 2002 Festival in the rolling grass and deciduous woodland of Brockwell Park (Deciduous? I knew that Biology/Ecology Degree would come in handy some time!). Now seasoned veterans of this worthy cause we knew what to expect and were ready with cash for the donations buckets. The Cannabis Coalition are always in need of donations, to ensure that this festival can continue so give 'em some cash/cheques/P.O.s people!

As usual there was a lively but chilled atmosphere. Plenty of families and kids there! That was the point - there were all ages at the festival! As well as the main stage there was music coming from many directions. Maybe a bit too much Bass from some venues though boys! The smell of cooking and smoke wafted through the air. A whole world of cuisine was, as always available. Too many to list them all. All parts of Asia, as well as the highly recommended Afro-Caribbean Jerk Chicken and Sweetcorn!!!Advice - Either go there hungry or find the Hash/Grass food, eat some and then Really Enjoy the tastes of the world while the music of the world floats by!

Lots to do and see as we circumnavigated Brockwell Park. We Checked out the 'Medicinal Uses' and other Hemp/Cannabis displays and caught up on the campaigns and those standing up for all medical users by pleading 'Not Guilty' to possession. There were kids activities too.

Once again the police were there, but keeping a low profile and everyone was nicely mellow. Some were stumbley and many were grinning from ear to ear. Unlike last year when rain made everyone (and the ground) a bit soggy this year the only downside was the chilliness in the early evening. But hey, this is England and it was May, so what did we expect??!!!! Unlike the scenes at the end of some football matches or other events where alcohol is consumed (often to excess) the end Cannabis Prohibition Festival ended peacefully as people 'Cheshire catted' their way home.

FUN FOR KIDS TOO!
